Suckling and Beckinsale triumph as Beven and Leech revel in tough conditions in Anaconda Adventure Race

Notorious for being the toughest of the Anaconda Adventure Race races, the Gold Coast stood true to form today and then doubled the challenge as rain fell half way through the race. This didn’t detract from the action and in many respects heightened it as competitors took the extra hardship in their stride conceding that this is why these are adventure races. The future of adventure racing shines bright as the Anaconda Junior Survivor attracts huge field

The Anaconda Junior Survivor continued its surge of popularity on the Gold Coast as a record number of kids participated in the 4km fun obstacle course at Palm Beach Parklands today. Over 600 children aged between 4 and 13 years old started in waves from oldest to youngest with huge smiles as they ran, jumped, crawled, waded and climbed their way around the scenic course.

A quick update as I’m in my fourth week of “recommended" rest after the body has had a bit of a melt down, the theory is that I have managed to deplete my glycogen stores to almost nil and have found any sort of exercise over the hour mark almost impossible without massive bouts of cramping and lethargy. Tomato, Salami & White Bean Soup

Heat 1tbl oil in a saucepan over high heat. Add 1 sliced red onion, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 100g chopped salami (as hot as you dare), 1 tsp sweet paprika and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add 1 can of tinned diced roma tomatoes and 1 litre of chicken stock and cook for 5-10 minutes. Add 1 can of drained and rinsed white beans and cook for 2 minutes. Top with basil and serve - serves 4.

The Ingkerreke Commercial MTB Enduro- Red Centre finished today with a very exciting end to the 5-day, 7-stage race around Alice Springs. This weekend saw the grand finale of the 5 race Anaconda Adventure Race Series in Forster, NSW. 500 competitors including the Bondi Rescue boys and Aussie sporting legends Guy Leech and Brad Beven circumnavigated over 60km of the beautiful Great Lakes district via kayak, swimming, trail running and mountain biking. And they did it not just on Saturday but again on Sunday demonstrating their endurance and versatility in what was an extremely exciting and competitive weekend of racing. The grand finale for the 2009/10 Anaconda Adventure Race Series is underway in Forster, NSW with the 2-day event circumnavigating the beautiful Great Lakes district via kayak, swimming, trail running and mountain biking. Today participants completed the course that they will repeat again tomorrow with additional team competitors joining. In all, almost 500 people are giving the spectacular off-road course a go.

The Doctor is Australia’s greatest ocean paddling event, held every year in Perth incorporating the Surf Ski World Cup part of the World Surf Ski Series. There are 2 exciting races over the weekend. Race 1 ‘the Doctor’ Surf Ski World Cup is a 28km downwind race from Rottnest Island to Hillarys Marina. Over 120 competitors made their way around the new course for the Anaconda Adventure Race at Augusta on Sunday, giving it the two thumbs up. This was the first time that the course had been ‘revealed’ to competitors with Sam and John from Rapid Ascent leading participants around the course in a friendly, non competitive environment. The Anaconda MTB Enduro – Red Centre finished this morning after 5 days and 7 stages of intense and skilful riding through spectacular terrain surrounding Alice Springs. From Stage 1 on Monday the pace was on and competition furious between the top riders who are amongst the best that Australia has to offer. The majority of the 264 participants were along to enjoy themselves and just complete the gruelling event that would give them bragging rights for years to come. In this third running of the Keen Adventure Race it was again the New Zealanders who stole the crown from the Aussies. This year it was the Orion Mixed team of Anna Berthelsen and Stuart Lynch who bettered their runners up place from 2008 with a faultless race. This dynamic duo were in the lead right from the start in this 500km, 5 day epic stage race, their win made even more remarkable by the fact that their team with one male and one female beat the all male pairs.
