Attention all adventurers - The world’s biggest adventure race returns to Augusta for another year

(Posted - 18 Dec 2009)

We are delighted to announce that the Western Australian leg of the 2010 Anaconda Adventure Race International Series will again be held at Augusta after the enthusiasm the new race venue received from competitors and the community from the 2009 event.

Augusta delivered all the key components that our Anaconda Adventure Races need with a spectacular course through true wilderness with competitors racing along rugged coastlines, through tranquil forests and in crystal clear water. The enthusiasm of the locals is to be highly commended and even the weather turned it on for us with a magical day. It does not get any better than this.

After much discussion and consideration, the 2010 race will be held on Sunday November 7th with a similar race schedule to this year. Adults’ registration and the kids’ Anaconda Junior Survivor will be on Saturday afternoon. The Anaconda Adventure Race will be on Sunday, followed by a new post race party on Sunday night to round out another epic weekend.

We are working through a few course evolutions and ideas in response to your feedback from the 2009 event, like removing the bottlenecks on the run, tweaking the mountain bike course and making the transition areas run more smoothly. The course will still provide you with the wow factor wilderness, and action adventures you’ve come to expect. Go the distance.

There are several other new ideas and initiatives we have in mind for the 2010 event that should deliver an even bigger and more polished event for all competitors, including more interstate and international competitors ready to take on the West Australian’s on their home turf.

So mark the date in your diaries, register your time off work and book your accommodation to ensure you are again part of the World’s Biggest Adventure Race at Augusta on November 7th, 2010. Entries will open on the event website in March 2010.

PS. Thank you to those who responded to our Saturday vs Sunday race day survey, the results of which were very close with no decisive preference between the two. We decided to keep the event on Sunday as it makes it logistically easier (and more social) for competitors to register, drop off bikes and kayaks into transition areas and gives greater emphasis to the kids doing the Junior Survivor on Saturday afternoon.

We realise that a lot of people were keen for a big post race party on Saturday night, so we’ll organise this for Sunday instead and advise that if you are going to take a day off work, take Monday so you can enjoy the post race spirit and drive home when you’re not so tired.
